Employers hiring entry SAS programmers at CROs test three things: SAS syntax (data steps, PROC SQL, macros), CDISC understanding (what SDTM and ADaM are for), and trial-data intuition — what a visit window is, why an SAE reconciliation matters, what happens at database lock. A SAS-only course teaches the first, gestures at the second, and cannot teach the third.

The result is a familiar pattern: fresher completes a ₹40–60K SAS course, interviews for programmer roles against candidates with CDM experience, and loses — because the competing candidate can talk about the data’s clinical life, not just its syntax.

The two routes that actually work

This route suits M.Sc statistics/maths graduates and analytically strong life-sciences graduates, and opens both statistical programming and biostatistician tracks.

When a dedicated SAS course does make sense: as a second step — you’re already in CDM or a data role and want the formal SDTM/ADaM depth; or you hold a statistics/CS degree and need only the clinical-flavoured SAS layer.
