Pharmacovigilance vs CRA.

Pharmacovigilance and CRA are the two most accessible entry paths into clinical research after a B.Pharm or life-sciences degree. Both pay competitively, both have clear progression, and both are in steady demand at Pune CROs and pharma sponsors. The right choice depends on temperament more than degree.

Pharmacovigilance

Who fits Pharmacovigilance

Pharmacovigilance suits graduates who prefer structured analytical work, are comfortable with strict regulatory timelines, and want to avoid travel. The work compounds quickly — every ICSR you process makes the next one faster — and the path to senior PV roles (signal detection, RMP writing) rewards specialisation deeply. PV also has the fastest hiring cycles in clinical research.

CRA

Who fits CRA

CRA suits graduates who are comfortable with travel (Pune-based CRAs cover sites across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka), prefer interpersonal site work over desk work, and want the highest long-term compensation ceiling among entry clinical research roles. The role is also more visible to senior management because CRAs interact with sponsors, sites, and project teams constantly.

Decision

Which should you choose?

Both are valid. If you value stability, fast hiring, and office-based work, choose Pharmacovigilance. If you value compensation ceiling, field work, and clinical trial operations, choose CRA. Many graduates start in PV (faster placement) and pivot to CRA after 2-3 years if they want field exposure — the reverse direction is harder.
